Happy Monday, I hope everybody had a great weekend! Did you check out the bathroom reveal and see the rope shelving? If not, check it out here. I wanted some type of inexpensive shelving for the girls bathroom. I used some pallet boards to make them. I use a lot of pallet boards because I can get my hands on them pretty easy and they are FREE! The supplies you need are:
- Pallet board or 1×4′s (6 at desire length)
- Wood glue
- Plates and screws
The first thing you need to do is cut your boards at the length you want. The first shelve I didn’t stain first but I found it easier to stain them before putting them together. Take 3 boards and put wood glue on the edges. Place the boards together and use a clamp to hold them till the glue dries.
I also used plates and screws to add some extra support. I didn’t want the boards falling apart. Make sure you pre-drill your holes. I found them in the door knob aisle of Lowes. I painted the plates black with some acrylic paint so they would blend in.
After the glue dries, use a dill bit larger than your rope to drill you a hole for your rope. This is the type of bit I used.
You will need four holes, one on each corner. Measure and mark all the holes to make sure they are all in the same place. When drilling the holes, drill half way through on one side and turn it over and drill the rest of the hole. This way your wood will not splinter on one side. After drilling your holes you are ready for your rope.
The rope I bought had was 50ft x 38″. You will need 2 pieces of rope. I cut 2- 20ft pieces.
After you have your rope cut, take one end of the rope and pull it through the front hole on the first shelf and tie a knot.
Now take the other end and tie another knot about 5 ft up. That knot will support your second shelf. After the knot is tied take your rope and pull it through the front holes of the second shelf till it is sitting on the knot. Repeat the same process with the back holes.
When you get one side completed, tie both of your ropes together on the side.
Now leave enough rope to hang it and tie the two ropes together again. Next pull your ropes through the other side tying knots under each shelves.
After you finish that, cut and burn the ends so they won’t come apart. After hanging your shelve you probably will have to adjust the knots so it will hang even. This is what I hung mine with.
Now decorate it any way you would like!
