I have a confession to make. I’ve been keeping a bit of a secret from you…
If you’re a fan of the Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company and you follow them on Facebook (which you definitely should!), you might already know that a group of DIY bloggers, including myself, were recently chosen to be part of the OFMP Brand Blogger Team!
I’m really excited to be among this awesome team of creative women! Plus, I don’t have a lot of experience with true milk paint, so I’m looking forward to getting to know it better. I hope you’ll come along and join me as I learn!
Now on to today’s project. You may remember this farmhouse style dresser I painted a few months ago:
What I didn’t mention at the time is that it also came with a matching nightstand. Around the same time I painted this dresser, I also painted our old nightstand that I’d grown tired of, so I decided to use this one as its replacement.
After giving it a good sanding and cleaning, I started with a base coat of Old Fashioned Milk Paint in Federal Blue, mixed with a touch of Light Cream to lighten it a bit, and Extra Bond to make sure it didn’t chip. After that, I decided to try glazing with some brown glaze I had on hand. And I hated it. A lot. But since I had nothing to lose at that point, I tried lightening up my brown glazed disaster with some heavy white glaze.
And you know what? I really liked it. A lot.
In fact, I loved it.
The end result looks almost like demin, don’t you think? And the best part is that Old Fashioned Milk Paint + Extra Bond makes for a durable finish that stands up to everyday use perfectly.
Now I’ll be honest – this project was a total experiment and one I wasn’t sure I’d even be able to blog about. I was ready to give up on it multiple times during the process. And by the end, it was nothing like I’d imagined, and absolutely perfect! I couldn’t be happier with my little experiment 🙂
I’m really looking forward to sharing with you all of the different looks that can be achieved with true milk paint over the next few months! The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co. was the first to package and sell true milk paint in its modern-day powder form – once you get used to it, it’s an amazing, versatile paint!
