A few weeks ago, a friend of mine let me know that a family friend was about move and was looking for someone to pick up free items from her storage unit. Ummm, yes please! I was there as fast as my truck would take me.
For this makeover, I chose Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite, a lovely charcoal grey color with a bluish undertone. I’d only previously worked with Graphite on this project, so I was excited to use it for an entire piece this time.
As you’ll see in the first photo, the cushioning on the seat was really thin – it was basically a piece of wood covered by batting worn down to about a 1/4 inch. I replaced the batting with some 3/4 inch foam, and covered the seat with some patterned linen I’d purchased from a local shop owner last fall.
Here’s the top of the chair all waxed and buffed. I’ll be sharing next week how I get this gorgeous sheen with Annie Sloan wax, so stay tuned (in the meantime, you can find great waxing tips here).
Ready for the big reveal?
I’m loving the color of the wood peeking out from under the paint.
And here’s her little secret!
Recognize that leather? I’ve been saving it since this project 🙂
A storage compartment under the seat to stash all kinds of goodies! Books, toys, in-progress crochet projects…the list goes on and on.
Come to think of it, that would be a great place to hide chocolate from hungry little fingers too, don’t you think? 🙂
